Ring Bearer Ideas

Ring bearers are included in most traditional wedding ceremonies. The ring bearer’s basic job is to carry the bride and groom’s wedding rings safely down the aisle to the altar, archway or wherever the bride and groom will stand during the ceremony. The theme and formality of the wedding dictate the attire and behavior of the ring bearer.

Wagon
Most ring bearers are small boys who are at least toddlers and are able to walk on their own. If a child in that age range is not available or just to do something different, consider having a younger ring bearer who can sit in a wagon with the rings. Rings are typically secured to a small pillow with ribbons.

Prop up the baby boy or girl in the wagon. A parent or older child then pulls the wagon down the aisle. Cruise n’ Favors, a wedding favors and accessories company, offers a ring bearer wagon complete with a practice ring pillow, a T-shirt and other treats for the ring bearer.

Decorate the wagon with paint, ribbons or textiles in the wedding’s color scheme. Another alternative is to have a toddler-aged ring bearer pull the flower girl down the aisle in the wagon.

Miniature Bride and Groom
Create a picture-worthy moment by dressing the ring bearer as a miniature groom. The ring bearer wears a small replica of the groom’s attire and the flower girl wears a miniature version of the wedding gown. The two walk down the aisle holding hands or linking arms.

The ring bearer holds the ring pillow with his free hand. The flower girl holds her bouquet or basket of flowers with her free hand. Retailers such as Advantage Bridal offer tuxedos for children that include everything from cummerbunds to shoes.

Pet
No rule states that ring bearers must be boys or even human beings. Use a beloved pet as a ring bearer during the wedding ceremony. One option is to use a well-trained dog to carry the rings down the aisle. The rings are attached to a decorative collar. If the dog is amenable to wearing clothes, consider clothing the dog in a dress or suit.

Doggie Clothesline offers tuxedos, suits and top hats for dogs. Other animals that are not as likely to want to walk down the aisle, such as birds or cats, can serve as ring bearers by being carried in special carriers or pet strollers. Just Pet Strollers offers strollers in several colors that are specially designed for cats and dogs.
